1. Sun-Earth Days - April 27th and 28th - Join Us!

What are they?

The Sun-Earth Days are a national celebration of the Sun, the space
around the Earth (geospace), and how all of it affects life on our
planet. In classrooms, museums, planetaria, and at NASA centers --
not to mention hundreds of National Astronomy Day celebrations in your
area -- we plan to have a blast sharing stories, images, and activities
related to the Sun-Earth connections in our solar system.

When will they happen?

Some of us will celebrate on April 27 in our classrooms. Others will
celebrate on April 28, National Astronomy Day, in the parks, museums,
malls, planetaria, and auditoriums around the world.

What can you do?

* Host or organize an event with a local club, institution, museum.
* Give a presentation or talk at your local school or university.
* Set up solar observing telescopes or pinhole cameras and share
the view.
* Conduct your own research, or just read, explore, and learn about
Sun-Earth connections through the web.
* Participate in a web cast with Paul Mortfield of the Solar Center
at Stanford University. Ask questions during web chats or tune in
to space weather documentaries featured on Discovery Science and
NASA Select.
* Teach your friends, family, patrons, children, colleagues that the
Sun gives us a lot more than just sunlight, and space is hardly empty
* Visit our website to see what is happening near you and be sure to
register so we can keep you aware of all the exciting activities as
we near the April 27th and 28th *solar blast*.

Who is behind all of this?

Sun-Earth Day 2001 is sponsored by NASA's Sun-Earth Connection Education
Forum (SECEF), the joint ESA-NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory
mission, and The Astronomical League (sponsors of National Astronomy Day).

Perhaps your group or institution would like to join us?

Newsletter Sponsor Information--Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum
An integral element of the Office of Space Science (OSS) education and
public outreach strategy is the establishment of a network for space
science to foster a wide variety of education and public outreach
activities. This network of institutions include (1) four Education
Forums that serve as major centers for space science education and
public outreach in each of the four OSS Themes, and (2) a set of
regional Broker/Facilitators who, for example, help arrange collab-
orations between scientists and the education community. The Sun-Earth
Connection Education Forum (SECEF) is a partnership led by Goddard Space
Flight Center and UC Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory. To learn
more about SECEF and the Office of Space Science Education and Public
Outreach program, go to
